In the Press: Permalok® Radial Bending Joint Marks a New Era in Microtunneling
NWP’s Henry Goff discusses Permalok’s patent-pending RBJ technology with Municipal Water Leader—the first steel pipe designed for curved microtunneling.
In an exclusive interview featured on the cover of Municipal Water Leader’s November/December issue, Henry Goff, Vice President and General Manager of Permalok®, a Northwest Pipe Company, highlights the innovative Permalok Radial Bending Joint (RBJ). This patent-pending technology is the first of its kind, specifically engineered for microtunneling steel pipe along curved alignments. The Permalok RBJ offers a groundbreaking solution for trenchless projects in urban areas and challenging terrains, where existing infrastructure and natural obstacles pose significant hurdles.
With over 5 million feet successfully installed in the past three decades, Permalok has firmly established itself as a leader in trenchless steel pipe technology. The development of the RBJ further cements this legacy. In this interview, Goff emphasizes that customer needs are a catalyst for innovation at Northwest Pipe, with the goal of boosting performance and efficiency in the field.
The RBJ combines the advantages of steel pipe with the reliability, speed, and consistency of our press-fit Permalok joints while adding the flexibility to steer a tunnel’s curve…This results in a smaller construction footprint, lower installation costs, less environmental impact, and more precision when tunneling over long distances.
