About the Job

Assist with structural/civil engineering design support for all Precast plants and personnel necessary for the promotion, sale and manufacturing of precast concrete products. This requires the ability to develop a thorough understanding of the structural design requirements of all products the company manufactures. Can also include providing technical support for concrete mix designs, development of new products, processes, and plant improvement projects.

Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
  • Provide structural designs for full range of precast products manufactured by the Precast Infrastructure plants including pipe, box culverts, catch basins, manholes, wingwalls and other precast concrete products as directed and under the supervision of the Director of Engineering.
  • Ability and initiative to become knowledgeable with design concepts and theory for all current products including pipe, box culverts, manholes and specialty precast.
  • Analyze civil plans and specifications to understand project requirements.
  • Prepare and review project specific CAD drawings.
  • Understand concrete mix designs and serve as a technical resource for the manufacturing plants as needed.
  • Assist in submittal preparation, submittal approval from Engineer and review production drawings.
  • Prepare and review bills of material (BOMs)
  • Support production with cost savings projects related to process or product design.
  • Communicate and support project sales representatives, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality teams on any design related questions and/or issues.
  • Engage with and participate in precast industry specific associations (MSPCA, APCA, NPCA, etc.) and work with engineers for public utilities, government entities, and other vendors.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to read, write and speak in English language.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to function in a fast paced growing role and department.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to work with sales, engineering, drafting and production teams to turn projects over in a timely manner.
  • Possess a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to review project plans as needed.
  • Must be able to assist management with production problems & develop sound solutions.
  • Must be able to receive & execute verbal and written instructions and document instructions in organized manner.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Basic knowledge of ACI 318, AASHTO LRFD, and other applicable design codes.
  • Ability to use various computer programs, including AutoCAD, Solidworks, and MathCAD with a minimum of one year experience.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Structural/Civil Engineering from accredited university, Master of Science in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 1-year work experience in a professional environment, precast and/or manufacturing
  • Preferred Concrete Design course.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • I.T Certification (or the ability to obtain with 6 months of hire).
