About the Job

The Director of FP&A and Operations Accounting will manage the Financial Planning & Analysis and the Cost Accounting teams.  Both teams play critical roles at Northwest Pipe Company.  FP&A is an important function, sitting at the center of the broader finance team to help the CFO, the Company’s leadership, and the board gain financial visibility and insights on the business. Cost Accounting ensures the financial accuracy in reporting operation’s performance.

 

This role collaborates with other key operational teams on the moving pieces that impact the Company’s financial outlook, and includes responsibilities in the areas of cost accounting, forecasting, controls, policy and procedure development, and internal and external audit support.

Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities
  • Oversee the FP&A and Cost Accounting functions
  • Contribute to the monthly and quarterly close process, specifically in ensuring consistent application of methodologies and accounting policies, along with the planning, coordination and scheduling of the monthly and quarterly close activities
  • Lead initiatives to define and enhance management forecasting packages
  • Lead initiatives to define and enhance financial metrics to facilitate achievement of financial and operational goals
  • Enhance the accuracy and usability of the monthly forecasts and annual strategic plan
  • Ensure delivery of accurate and timely financial and operations analysis and reporting by the cost accounting team
  • Maintain and perform selected internal control procedures, and document performance
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the accounting organization.
  • Interact with the external audit teams
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on issues affecting the Company; i.e., evaluation of potential acquisitions, investments, contracts, etc.

Education/Experience

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, plus at least 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience at a manufacturing company
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in the application of GAAP and an understanding of internal controls.
  • Experience with the monthly accounting close process.
  • Experience working with SAP or other major enterprise-wide application.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • A CPA or MBA is preferred
